More info about Leroy Fer

Leroy Fer (January 5, 1990) started his youth career at SV DWO, a football club in his town of birth: Zoetermeer. At the age of nine, Leroy accepted the invitation to join the Feyenoord youth academy in Rotterdam. After making his way through the various youth levels there, and playing a total of 39 matches for the Dutch Under 16, 17 and 19 teams, he made his debut in the first squad on December 2, 2007. Feyenoord Rotterdam defeated Heracles Almelo (6-0) on that day and the young midfielder entered the pitch as a substitute player.

Not only did he act in sixteen matches during his debut season, he also won the Dutch cup. Leroy played in the right-back position in most of the matches and scored his first goal against NAC Breda on March 30, 2008. Leroy became a first team regular during the 2008-2009 season and celebrated his European debut as a starting line-up player in the UEFA Cup match against Kalmar FF in September 2008. Feyenoord lost (0-1), but in the return game in Sweden, he scored the winning goal (1-2).

Leroy became one of the important players of Feyenoord Rotterdam, and was named vice-captain during the 2010-2011 season. He played his first match in the Dutch national team against Ukraine on August 11, 2010. He joined FC Twente in the summer of 2011 and played a total of 77 matches during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons. As a FC Twente player, this midfielder of Curaçaoan descent scored 21 goals.

Premier League club Norwich City became Leroy’s new club in the summer of 2013. He immediately impressed staff, club and fans with a goal against Bury and a couple of Man of the Match awards. He was awarded Norwich’s Player of the Month for August. To his credit, the player was selected for the Netherlands squad for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, where he scored his first goal in the second match of the group phase against Chile on June 23, 2014.

After playing 33 games at Norwich City, the Dutchman moved to newly promoted Premier League team Queens Park Rangers before the 2014-2015 season started. He played his first match for QPR against Tottenham Hotspur and scored goals against Leicester City, Burnley and Liverpool. Leroy joined Premier League side Swansea City on loan on the first of February 2016 and featured in 11 matches during the second half of the 2015-2016 season.
